WHY address the drug epidemic?
According to The Washington Post, "death rates for Americans aged 25 to 44 have risen since the beginning of the decade, a trend seen across almost all racial and ethnic groups and significantly driven by the opioid epidemic." Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said "awaken every American to this simple fact: if this scourge has not found you or your family yet, without bold action by everyone, it soon will." The Devil Ain't Gonna Win is bold enough to wake up, and shake up audiences with soulful foot stomping consciousness raising songs and didactic dialogue.
WHY is this personal?
"I've seen the results of generational alcohol and drug abuse among my family and friends. Their addiction affects us and we need support groups and edutainment that address our concerns. The Devil Ain't Gonna Win brings awareness and compassion to the struggles of an African American family affected by drug and alcohol addiction linked to the historic remnants of slavery, lynching, institutionalized racism, and their influence in shaping and molding the Wilson family. This project is a contributing resource for our social and psychological healing." - Wilhemina A. Paulin
